On dam-rearing (=MuKa) farms, all male and female calves have daily contact to their mothers, during 3 months or longer.
However, a conversion to dam-calf contact rearing is associated with challenges and cannot be implemented overnight. A change to an new form of dairy farming usually takes time and the possibilities are highly dependent on the current farm circumstances. Dam-rearing farms in transformation are farms where dam-calf contact so far can be implemented with some cows and calves or where the calves not yet have dam-contact during 12 weeks.
